The history of Tiong Bahru Boneless Hainanese Chicken Rice dates back to 1988, and one of its notable achievements is being awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand. While there are numerous chicken rice stalls in Small Sunny Singapore, only a few have received this prestigious award. As a huge fan of Chicken Rice, it has become my go-to meal during lunch due to its fast and tasty nature. There are various arguments regarding what makes a chicken rice delicious – is it the rice, the chicken, or the chili that complements the chicken rice?

At Tiong Bahru Boneless Hainanese Chicken Rice, they offer two types of chicken: roasted and white steamed chicken. Their signature chicken is the white one, which supposedly uses a special technique of soaking the chicken in ice water to achieve a desirable texture. Naturally, I ordered the signature white chicken rice to try. P.S. We waited for almost an hour during a weekend lunch before finally getting our hands on a plate of chicken rice.

The plate of Chicken Rice looks decent, with a good amount of rice and thick chunks of white chicken. Considering its price of S$3.50, I find the portion to be generous compared to some other chicken rice stalls.

The chicken was decent – moist and tender. Although some might find it slightly bland, the dark soy sauce provided complements the chicken well.

I would describe their chili as “fresh” and not overly spicy. For someone who doesn’t handle spicy food well, it was perfect for my taste buds.

On the other hand, the rice was a bit disappointing as it wasn’t fluffy enough. However, its saving grace was that it was well-seasoned, oily, and fragrant.

Tiong Bahru Boneless Hainanese Chicken Rice serves a good plate of Chicken Rice, but personally, I wouldn’t wait in line for an hour just to have it.
