Tiong Bahru Bakery needs no introduction, and with over 10 outlets across the island, it’s the go-to place for anyone craving French baked goods. Besides their delectable pastries, some outlets also serve coffee and tea.

One of my frequented outlets is the original store located in Tiong Bahru. Walking into the store is always a delightful experience as I take in the wide variety of baked goods displayed at the counter. From croissants to eclairs, there’s something to suit everyone’s taste. And if you’re in the mood for something savory, they also offer quiches and sandwiches.

One of my favorites is the Kouign-amann (S$5.50), a sweet Breton cake made with laminated dough. It’s wonderfully layered and dense, with a caramelized coating that adds a satisfying crunch. The center is buttery and pairs exceptionally well with a cup of coffee.

When at Tiong Bahru Bakery, their croissants are a must-try. I ordered their Almond Croissant (S$5.50), which features a delightful almond filling that isn’t overly sweet. The top of the croissant is sprinkled with toasted almond slices. However, I would have preferred the croissant to be more flaky and buttery, similar to their plain croissant.

We also sampled their Chocolate Eclair (S$8.2), filled with chocolate mousse and topped with a glossy layer of chocolate. The chocolate mousse had a balanced sweetness with a hint of bitterness, likely due to the use of dark chocolate. However, considering the price of 8 bucks for a slice of eclair, I probably wouldn’t order it again.

For beverages, we tried the Iced Latte (S$7.50) and Iced Chocolate (S$7), but they left something to be desired. They tasted somewhat bland and diluted, even though we had them immediately after they were served.
