As a halal ice cream cafe, Three’s a Crowd is a welcome addition to the Tampines dessert scene.

However, while the cafe’s commitment to providing halal desserts is admirable, my recent visit left me feeling underwhelmed.

One of the main draws of Three’s a Crowd is their waffles ($6), because how can you have ice cream without waffles right? However, I found the waffle to be too dense and heavy, lacking the light and fluffy texture that I look for in a good waffle.

In fact it tastes rather tough to me, more like a kueh than the soft melt-in-your-mouth texture I was looking for when it come to waffles and ice cream.

The ice cream itself was decent, with a good selection of flavors to choose from. We went with a premium flavour – Speculoos ($4.50). It does taste like the Biscoff biscuit I love so much!

However, it was not exceptionally memorable especially when paired with the waffle, which detracted from the overall experience.

We washed it down with some Iced Latte ($6) which was quite fragrant with bitter notes. They made a good contrast to the sweet ice cream and waffles, plus a cup of iced latte is always welcomed in this hot weather!

One positive aspect of Three’s a Crowd is the cafe’s cozy and inviting atmosphere, with comfortable seating and a relaxed vibe. Be prepared however to take the outdoor seating as the café is small with limited seating with A/C. On the bright side, it did make the ice cream a joy to have! Besides the ice cream, there are also other cakes and dessert which we did not get to try.

Overall, while I appreciate the rarity of a halal dessert place, I would have to say that Three’s a Crowd did not quite live up to my expectations. For other halal options, I would recommend Penny University which offers good food and coffee!
