As a BIG fan of anything spicy and oily, I was thrilled to discover a restaurant in town, just minutes walk from Bugis MRT that serves up delicious and flavourful Chinese dishes (the kind that may clog your arteries). From savoury skewers to sour and spicy fish, the menu at this restaurant is packed with classic dishes that are sure to satisfy any appetite.
But what really sets this restaurant apart is the immersive dining experience it offers. Upon entering, I was transported to a galaxy far, far away thanks to the space-themed decor and atmosphere. The restaurant even has a special experience room that simulates a journey through the cosmos, complete with holographic projections. There were also life-sized authentic-looking astronauts that make for instagrammable photos.
Of course, no dining experience would be complete without delicious food, and this restaurant did not disappoint. We had a variety of sides and mains.
The skewers (~S$1 per skewer for chicken, beef and lamb) were heated over a live fire but we still found it to be a little cold and hard. I have had better skewers elsewhere as I personally prefer fatter and juicer meat but this is a sure hit with the fitness junkies out there who prefer lean meat.
The star of the show was the Fish with Green Pepper Soup (S$32.80) that came in like the main character it was. Engulfed in dry ice, the fresh fish was brought in separately from the pot of hot soup. Like a true taste sensation, we were able to cook the fish on our own time so it doesn’t disintegrate into the soup.
The spicy and sour soup was a perfect complement to the white fish as the peppercorns and preserved vegetables gave it a burst of flavors. I couldn’t stop drinking the soup despite sweating with every mouthful, but it is that kick that keeps you going back for more. The portions were generous, and the prices were very reasonable considering the high quality of the food and the immersive atmosphere.
We also ordered a few other side dishes to go with it – Steamed Chicken with Chili Sauce (S$9.80), Teppan Farm Spoon Soft Tofu (S$15.80) and Grilled Mutton Ribs (S$17.80). The side dishes were a nice staple to go with the fish if you are not intending to order white rice but I found myself going back to the sour and spicy fish soup more than side dishes.
Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience. Whether you’re a fan of Chinese cuisine or just looking for something out of the ordinary, this is the place to go. With the rise of northern Chinese food, this is another restaurant you can add to your list the next time you are craving for some spicy food.
