Recently, I had the opportunity to try the wanton noodles at Tampines Xing Ji Wanton Mee, a popular noodle joint in the Tampines area.

With mixed reviews, I was curious to see for myself if the wanton noodles lived up to the hype. Unfortunately, my experience was underwhelming. Going at a price of $5 a bowl, I was expecting a lot more.

As you can tell, the noodles were starchy and hard to swallow, lacking the springiness and texture that I expect from good wanton noodles. This made the dish a chore to eat and took away from the overall experience. If you are a fan of thick yellow noodles, this might be your cup of tea? Coupled with the char siew that were lean and thin, this combination was not the best.

The saving grace was the wanton. The wanton was juicy and had ample fillings, providing a satisfying bite. The meat was juicy and flavorful, making up for the shortcomings of the noodles. The skin was also not too thick and when mixed well with the chilli oil, it slid down my throat.

Despite my experience, Xing Ji Wanton Mee has received positive reviews from many customers, with some even claiming it to be the best wanton noodles they have ever had. The wanton itself has received much praise, with customers raving about its thickness and flavorful filling. I guess to each its own?

In conclusion, my experience at Tampines Xing Ji Wanton Mee was a mixed bag. While the wanton was enjoyable, the noodles left much to be desired. However, others have had a positive experience, so it may be worth trying for yourself to see if it meets your expectations.
