Located in Yuhua Village Market and Food Centre, Seng Huat Homemade Fried Carrot Cake is a tasty option for those looking for something unique. As their name suggests, their carrot cake is made from scratch, a rare find these days, given the hard work it requires. I was curious to see what a handmade carrot cake would taste like!

Seng Huat Homemade Fried Carrot Cake offers both the black and white version of the dish, like most fried carrot cake stalls. The black version is flavored with dark soy sauce, which gives it its distinct color and flavor. I personally prefer the black version as I love how the dark soy sauce provides a caramelized taste and sometimes crispy bits.

Upon first glance, the black carrot cake(S$3) appears to be decent, with a generous amount of egg and a mixture of carrot cake pieces of different sizes. Upon tasting, I realized that the homemade carrot cake is softer than factory-made versions. I would describe it as melting in my mouth, but I prefer a firmer texture that I am more used to.

The Black Carrot Cake was not overly sweet or oily, and with each bite, I could taste the Cai Po, which added an extra crunch and depth of flavor. I also ordered the spicy version, which had chili added during the stir-frying process. The spice was not overpowering and allowed the subtle sweetness of the homemade carrot cake to shine through.

Seng Huat Homemade Fried Carrot Cake serves a unique plate of Carrot Cake, but I probably wouldn’t order it again, as I prefer my carrot cake firmer and with a bit more oil and sweetness from the soy sauce. However, if you haven’t tried a Homemade Fried Carrot Cake, you should give Seng Huat a try and it might just be your cup of tea! I also appreciate the store owners persisting on making their carrot cake by hand and I am sure there are many out there who would describe this as a rare find.
