I am a huge fan of sweet baked goods, and Puffs and Peaks has received high praise from those around me. It started as a humble online store and has now expanded to a physical bakery, with its brick and mortar location in Tampines. For those who reside in the west, traveling to the east can take a lot of time and paying a delivery fee may deter some. While they offer free delivery for orders over $100, I would only order that much for a party.

I finally found the time to visit Puffs and Peaks in Tampines to try their famous filled donuts. While they offer other baked goods such as cookies, brownies and sourdough loaves, we ordered their Vanilla Bean(S$3.80) and Chocolate Donuts(S$3.80) to try.

The donuts were lightly coated with sugar and not overly greasy.

When I tore it apart like a beast, I was pleasantly surprised by the soft and fluffy texture and generous filings. The vanilla cream was smooth and creamy, and I think the black bits in the cream were vanilla beans, which might explain its strong vanilla aroma. It was not too sweet, enhancing the overall taste of the donut. I could easily eat seconds without feeling overwhelmed by sweetness.

The Chocolate Donut had a filling that was similar to custard rather than traditional chocolate cream and, like the other donut, it overflowed when bitten. It had a subtle bittiness and nuttiness from the chocolate used, making it difficult to resist taking another bite. Unfortunately it pales in comparison to the Vanilla Bean which we felt was much smoother and a nice buttery contrast to the donut dough.

While Puffs and Peaks Bakery at Tampines is not the most convenient for those who live in the west, I was able to visit late in the afternoon; however, many of the flavours had already sold out. The Biscoff flavor in particular was one that I would really have liked to try. I will definitely be back to try their other popular flavours, but better yet, here’s to hoping that they would open an outlet in the west soon?
