Kok Kee Wanton Mee has almost 40 years of history, and is known to be one of the best Wanton mee in Singapore.  It was recently acquired by Jumbo Group,  and has quickly expanded to having 8 stalls islandwide. As a huge fan of Wanton Mee, I am ashamed to say that I have never tried Kok Kee before. With its quick expansion, the convenience of having more stalls around means I could get to try them without traveling much! We went to the branch at Foch Road that is in a coffee shop.

What to Eat at Kok Kee Wanton Mee

We ordered the Dry Wanton Mee which costs S$5, just a tad pricier than a usual bowl of Dry Wanton Mee. At first glance, the plate of Wanton Noodles has the usual toppings – Char Siu, Choy Sum (Vegetable) and dumplings.

What stood out was the amount of sauce the noodles were drenched in and the generous amount of Chili ladled across the plate of yellow noodles. In fact, the sauces and chili are the founders’ own concoction!

After carefully mixing, the noodles were evenly coated with the sauces and were glistening with oil. The noodles were cooked to perfection – Al Dente, just how I like my noodles done. Compared to other wanton mees, Kok Kee’s sauces are on the sweeter side, and the oil that coated each strand of noodles gave it a fragrant aroma. My friends found it too oily for their liking. Well, to each his own.

The dumplings were handmade and the stuffings were marinated generously with Sesame oil, giving each dumpling a layer of nutty aroma.

The Char Siu could have been better – I would prefer a more fatty and thicker cut.

Is Kok Kee Wanton Mee the best Wanton Mee in Singapore? That is definitely debatable. I could see myself eating it again if I happen to be nearby, but probably not worth making a trip down just to have it.
