How good is Cheng Mun Chee Kee Pig Organ Soup if it is the only main they sell? Cheng Mun Chee Kee is not to be confused with Authentic Mun Chee Kee. Although both Pig Organ Soup originate from the same family, they later went their separate ways.
What to eat at Cheng Mun Chee Kee Pig Organ Soup
While ordering, we realised that they only offer rice to go with their soup, without the usual choices of mee sua etc.
The small bowl goes for $4.70 and $6.70 for the big bowl. The price is comparable to other hawker centres but one thing for sure – the ingredients are way more than usual! With a large variety of pig livers, pig intestines, pig stomach, meat balls, tofu, spinach and suan cai (sauerkraut), every spoonful was full. Surprisingly, the soup base was not peppery, but tasted more like a herbal soup. In fact, this is the first time I ever had a sweet pig organ soup! Not going to complain, this was a refreshing take on the traditional soup that is usually heavy on pepper.
One deal breaker for pig organ soup is that all the innards MUST be cleaned properly. Thankfully, there was no stale taste coming from the innards and soup. However, if you are not a fan of the strong taste, you can try dipping them in their chilli and they taste equally as good!
All in all, given the amount of ingredients, it is definitely value for money and worth a try. Remember that soup base is on the sweeter side, so for those of you who enjoy herbal Bak Ku Teh, this might be for you!
