No matter the time of the day, there is always a long queue at Beach Road Prawn Noodle House that is visible even when you drive by. Thankfully, they offer a spacious seating area and the queue moves quickly. We were in within 15mins! Beach Road Prawn Mee serves up bowls of mixed yellow noodles and thick beehoon in their flavourful prawn soup. If you are feeling it, you can also order a plate of fried sides (Five Spices), also jointly owned by them to go with your prawn noodles.

At Beach Road Prawn Mee, you have to queue before getting a seat assigned to you. I really like this efficient system as it ensures that there aren’t people just “chopeing” the seats and not ordering. However, even though we got the seats pretty quickly, the food didn’t come as fast and we had to wait for another 10 minutes or so before the food was served to our table.

There are a variety of prawn mee ($6.50) for you to choose from – classic prawns, jumbo prawns, and pork ribs. We ordered the classic one that came with 4 half prawns that were big, almost the size of my palm. For just $6.50, I was surprised at how juicy and big the prawns were! They were also very fresh, as expected from a store with a high run rate.

Both the noodles and the beehoon were chewy, not overcooked and somehow managed to absorb the fragrance of the prawn. Paired with their savoury soup which could be a little salty on its own, it was blissful spoonful after spoonful, and you can’t help but go back for more. They also topped the soup with a generous serving of shallots, providing crunchiness in every bite.

I can imagine myself craving for this comfort food on a gloomy afternoon. The soup was so flavourful and yet didn’t taste like MSG, making me want to come back for a second bowl in the near future!
